The SOPCompass Capture Chrome extension writes a step for every click, field and page change, with a screenshot of each, and hands you a draft to review.

SOPCompass Capture is a Chrome extension that records a task you do in a web app and turns it into a step-by-step guide in SOPCompass. Each click, field or page change becomes a step with a screenshot and the element you used outlined. What you type is never recorded, and nothing is published until a person reviews the draft.

Capture the click path while you work

Connect the extension to your SOPCompass account, pick a workspace and an SOP (or start a new one), and press Start capture. Then do the task the way you normally would in your CRM, billing tool or any other web app. A small bar in the corner shows the step count, with Pause and Stop.

  • Click "Save", Check "Remember me", Choose "Closed Won" in "Stage": each action becomes a plainly worded step
  • A screenshot for every step, with the element you used outlined
  • Add to an existing SOP or start a new one

Private by design

A capture tool sees your screen, so SOPCompass Capture is built to keep what matters out of it. A text field becomes "Type into Email", never what you typed. Password, card number, security code and one-time code fields are skipped, and any that are filled in are masked in screenshots.

  • No screenshot while a payment provider’s form is on the page
  • Email addresses and phone numbers in labels and page titles are replaced
  • Page addresses are stored without query strings, and record ids are replaced
  • Only the tab you started in (and tabs it opens), only while capturing

Review before anything is published

Press Stop and SOPCompass opens the capture as a draft. Edit the wording, reorder or delete steps, remove screenshots, add notes for context, or let AI rewrite the wording into clearer instructions (and undo it if you prefer your own). Nothing reaches your team until you press Publish.

Which browsers does it work in?

Google Chrome 116 or later, and other Chromium browsers such as Edge, Brave and Arc. You set it up from the Capture page in the SOPCompass app.

Does it capture desktop apps?

No. SOPCompass Capture works in the browser. For a desktop app, record your screen or upload a video and SOPCompass drafts the guide from that.

Does it record what I type?

No. A text field produces a step like "Type into Email" with the field name only. Password, card and similar fields are skipped and masked in screenshots.

Which plans include it?

Every plan. Anyone with edit access to a workspace can capture into it.
