Switching from another tool FAQ

There are no one-click connectors to other SOP tools. You import the files they export, re-record web tasks with the capture extension, or ask us for migration help.

Updated

SOPCompass doesn’t have direct connectors to other SOP or wiki tools. What it has is a set of importers that work from the files those tools can produce, and two ways to recreate what files can’t carry: the capture extension for web tasks and Add from video for recordings.

A practical order for a switch:

  1. Export or download your existing SOPs as Word or PDF files.
  2. Create libraries in the right pillars, then import each file into its library and review the draft.
  3. Re-record click-by-click web tasks with the capture extension.
  4. Invite your team and assign the SOPs that matter most first.

The details of every import path are in Importing from other tools.

Common questions

Can SOPCompass import directly from Whale, Trainual or Scribe?

Not with a direct connection. SOPCompass imports files: Word (.docx), PDF, Markdown, plain text, HTML and CSV, plus audio and video recordings. If your current tool can export or print its content to one of those formats, you can bring it in.

How do I import from Google Docs?

In Google Docs choose File, then Download, then Microsoft Word (.docx), and import that file. PDF works too. There is no live Google Drive connection.

What does the import do with my document?

The AI turns it into a draft SOP with cards and steps, and tells you at the top of the review what it left out and what it had to infer. You review the draft and nothing is saved until you do. Every import creates a new SOP in the library you picked.

What about my Scribe-style click-by-click guides?

Re-record them with the SOPCompass Capture Chrome extension. Doing the task once gives you fresh steps with current screenshots and highlight boxes, which is usually quicker than fixing old screenshots.

I have training videos. Can I bring them?

Yes. Use Add from video on an SOP to upload a video file up to 500 MB, such as a Loom or Zoom recording. The AI writes the steps, the video stays in the card, and each step links to its moment in the video.

Some of our processes only exist in people's heads.

Use the AI interview (Build with AI). It asks questions by text or voice and drafts SOPs from the answers. You can also record yourself talking through a process and import the audio file; it is transcribed in your browser.

Which file types can't be imported?

The old Word .doc format and Rich Text (.rtf). Open them in Word and save as .docx or PDF first. Files over 32 MB need to be split.

Can I import many documents at once?

Imports are one file at a time and each is reviewed before saving. For a large migration, email support@ironbridgeaiadvisory.com before you start. Enterprise plans include onboarding and migration help.

Where should imported SOPs go?

Import into a library in the pillar where the work happens. You can move SOPs and libraries between pillars later, and on Business, AI sort can propose a home for each SOP and flag catch-all documents to split.

Will links and images from my old tool come across?

The AI rewrites your document into cards and steps, keeping lists, bold text and tables. Images and clickable links are not carried into the draft (the AI can read a PDF's screenshots to understand the steps, but it doesn't copy them in). Add screenshots and links in the SOP afterwards, or re-record web tasks with the capture extension.

Can I keep using my old tool while I switch?

Yes. Nothing in SOPCompass touches your old tool. You can move one pillar at a time and assign the new SOPs as they go.
