SOPCompass is a home for your standard operating procedures (SOPs): the written steps for how your business does things, from onboarding a new hire to closing out an event. It helps you get those steps out of people’s heads, keeps them in one shared structure, and puts them in front of the people who need them.

What you can do with it

  • Write SOPs in several ways. Type them yourself, import a Word, PDF, Markdown or text file, record your screen, upload a video, capture a task click by click with the Chrome extension, or let the AI interview you and draft the SOP. See Create your first SOP.
  • Keep everything organized the same way. Every workspace has a Company area plus five business pillars, and every SOP is tagged with the departments it matters to. See Pillars and departments.
  • Make sure SOPs get read. Assign an SOP to people with a due date and a note, optionally require a passing quiz score or a signed policy, and see who has finished. See Publish and assign your first SOP.
  • Follow along while working. The reader lets people mark steps done, tick checklists, enlarge the text and keep the screen awake. See Reading an SOP.
  • Get answers. Ask a question in plain English and get an answer drawn only from your own SOPs, with links to the sources. See Ask questions about your SOPs.
  • Stay current. Every change is kept in version history, SOPs can have an owner and a review date, and comments let the people doing the work flag what is out of date.

How it is organized

Everything in SOPCompass sits in a simple hierarchy:

  1. A workspace is one business, brand or location.
  2. Inside it are boards: the Company area and the five pillars.
  3. Each board holds libraries, which group related SOPs.
  4. Each SOP is made of one or more cards (sections).
  5. Each card holds numbered steps.

Boards, libraries, SOPs, cards and steps explains each level in detail.

Who does what

Each person has one of four roles in a workspace: owner, admin, editor or viewer. Viewers read, follow along, comment, take quizzes and complete assignments. Editors also write and assign SOPs. Admins also manage people and settings. Owners have full control, including billing. See Roles and permissions.

Note: You only pay for people who can edit (owners, admins and editors). Viewers are unlimited on every plan.

Common questions

Do my employees need to install anything?

No. SOPCompass runs in the browser on a computer, tablet or phone. People can optionally add it to their phone's home screen as an app. Only editors who want to capture web tasks click by click need the optional Chrome extension.

Is there a free plan?

No. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and viewers (people who only read SOPs) are unlimited on every plan.
