The SOPCompass reader is designed for following a procedure while you do it.

The layout

  • At the top: the SOP title, its owner, how many cards it has and its pillar and departments. Labels such as Review overdue, Archived or Policy, sign-off required appear here when they apply.
  • The card list: every card in the SOP, with a count of how many steps you have done.
  • In the middle: the current card, its introduction and its numbered steps.
  • The reader bar: stays at the top of the screen as you scroll, with previous and next buttons, a menu to jump to any card, how many steps of this card are done, and Aa for larger text.

Following along

  • Mark done: click it under a step when you finish. The step number turns green. Click again to undo.
  • Checklists: tick the boxes inside a step or card.
  • Next card: at the bottom of each card, a button shows the next card’s name. The last card says “That’s the end of this SOP.”
  • Finish: when every step is marked done, you get a small celebration. If the SOP has a quiz, you can Take the quiz from there.

Your progress is saved on the device you are using, so you can close the page and pick up where you left off.

Screenshots and highlight boxes

Many steps have a screenshot. A box may outline the button or field to click, sometimes with a label.

Video steps

If a card has a video, steps made from it show Watch this step with a time. Clicking it plays the card’s video from that moment. See Screen recordings and videos.

Buttons at the top of an SOP

  • Save: bookmark it for yourself. It then appears under Saved.
  • Assign, Share, Edit and Add from video: for editors.
  • More: comments, history, copy link, print or save as PDF, download as Word, and editor tools like quizzes and moving the SOP.

Comments

Under each step, click Comment to ask a question or flag something out of date on that exact step. See Comments and @mentions.

Policies and quizzes

  • If an SOP is a policy, a banner says so and a Go to sign button takes you to the signature block at the end.
  • If an SOP has a quiz, the end of the last card offers Take the quiz.

Reading on a phone

The reader works on phones and tablets. The reader bar stays in reach, the controls are large enough to tap, and the screen stays awake where the browser supports it. See Use SOPCompass on your phone.

Common questions

Is my progress shared with my manager?

No. Steps you mark done and checklist ticks are saved on your device only, as your own reading progress. Completing an assignment is what your manager sees.

Why does my screen stay on while I read?

The reader asks the browser to keep the screen awake so it does not dim while your hands are busy. It works in browsers that support the Screen Wake Lock feature.
