Everything in SOPCompass sits in the same five levels:

Workspace
Board (Company or one of the five pillars)
    Library
      SOP
        Card
          Step

Boards

A workspace has six boards: Company and the five pillars (Lead Acquisition, Lead Nurture, Sales Execution, Fulfillment & Delivery, Retention). They are created for you and cannot be renamed, added or deleted. See Pillars and departments.

Note: Workspaces created before the pillars existed may also show a section called Not sorted into a pillar yet. Those older boards keep working. Editors can place each library in a pillar by hand, and admins can use AI sort. Once an old board is empty, it is removed.

Libraries

A library groups related SOPs inside a board, such as “Payroll” or “New client setup”. On a pillar page, each library is a column.

Editors can:

  • Add one with + Library.
  • Rename it with the pencil icon.
  • Reorder libraries with the left and right arrows (switch the department view to Everything first).
  • Set its default departments with Set departments.
  • Move it to another pillar with Move. See Moving SOPs and libraries.
  • Share it into other workspaces with Share (Business plan). See Library sharing.

Admins and owners can delete a library with the ✕ icon. SOPCompass asks you to type the library’s name to confirm, because this permanently deletes every SOP in it, archived ones included.

SOPs

An SOP is one procedure: the thing people open, follow, get assigned and are quizzed on. Each SOP has:

  • A title, and optionally an owner, a review schedule and tags. See Owners, review dates and tags.
  • At least one department.
  • A home pillar (its library’s), plus any other pillars it also shows in.

Inside a library, editors reorder SOPs with the up and down arrows and move them elsewhere with Move.

Cards

A card is a section of an SOP. The reader shows one card at a time, with a card list and previous and next buttons. Each card has a title, an optional introduction (which can hold text, checklists, tables, images and a video) and its steps.

Steps

Steps are the numbered instructions people work through. Each step has:

  • An optional title.
  • Instructions, with bold, italics, lists, headings and checklists.
  • An optional screenshot, with an optional highlight box showing what to click.
  • A Mark done button for readers, and a Comment button.
  • Watch this step, when the step was made from a video kept in the card.

Step numbers restart on each card.

Shared libraries

A library shared into your workspace from another one appears on Boards under Shared into your workspace name. You can read, assign, share and quiz from it, but it is edited only in its home workspace. Its page says “Read-only here. Edits happen at the source.”

Common questions

Is a library the same as a folder?

Close. A library groups related SOPs inside a pillar. Libraries do not nest inside each other.

How many cards should an SOP have?

As many as it has natural sections. A short task can be one card. A longer process, like an event day, reads better as a card for each phase.
