Publish and assign your first SOP
A saved SOP is visible to your workspace right away. Assigning it is how you make sure the right people actually read it.
When is an SOP visible?
There is no separate publish switch on an SOP. As soon as an SOP is saved in a library, everyone in the workspace can find and open it (filtered by their department view).
What stays private until you decide is the draft that comes before the SOP:
- An import is only created when you click Create this SOP.
- A screen recording or video is only saved when you click Create the SOP with (or Add) and the number of steps.
- A capture from the Chrome extension stays private to you until you click Publish on its review page.
- A Build with AI interview and its drafts are private to you until you save or apply them.
If you want to hide an SOP you already saved, archive it. It leaves boards and search and can be restored any time.
Assign it
Writing an SOP is not the same as people reading it. Assigning puts it in front of specific people and tracks who finished.
- Open the SOP.
- Click Assign.
- Under Who needs to read this, tick the people. Owners and admins can also type an email under Or add someone by email and click Add to invite someone new.
- Optionally set a Due date and a Note (“Why they’re getting this”).
- If the SOP has a quiz, keep Require a passing quiz score ticked to make passing it part of the assignment.
- Click Assign to (the button shows how many people).
Each member gets an email. The SOP appears under Assignments for them, with a badge on the menu.
How people complete it
- For a normal SOP, they open it, read it and click Mark complete on their Assignments page.
- If a passing quiz is required, the button says Take quiz, and passing completes the assignment.
- If the SOP is a policy, the button says Read and sign, and signing completes it. See Policy sign-off.
See who finished
- Click Assignments.
- Click the Everyone tab.
Each row shows the person, the note, the due date and a status: Open, Overdue or Done. For quiz-gated SOPs, you also see each person’s best score. Editors can Remove an assignment.
See Assignments and due dates for the details.
Common questions
Is there a draft mode for SOPs?
The drafts made by imports, recordings, captures and Build with AI stay private until you save or publish them. Once an SOP is saved in a library, everyone in the workspace can open it.
Do people get an email when I assign an SOP?
Yes. Each member you assign gets an email with the SOP, your note and the due date. If an email could not be sent, SOPCompass tells you so you can let them know yourself.
