Embed an SOP in Confluence

Paste the embed link and show it as an embed, or use an iframe or HTML macro if your Confluence admin allows one. The SOP stays in sync with SOPCompass.

Confluence can show a SOPCompass SOP in a few ways. Which one you can use depends on your Confluence edition and what your administrator has turned on. For how embeds work in general, see Embedding SOPs in other tools.

Start in SOPCompass: open the SOP, press Share, and create a share link labelled after the Confluence page.

  1. Press Copy embed link in the Share window.
  2. Paste it on its own line in the Confluence editor.
  3. Confluence turns it into a link. Use the link’s display options to switch it to the Embed view, if your site offers it.
  4. Resize the embed to the height you want.

Option 2: An iframe or HTML macro

Some Confluence sites have an iframe macro, from Atlassian or a Marketplace app, or the HTML macro on Data Center. These are often turned off by administrators because they allow raw HTML.

  • Iframe macro: press Copy embed link and paste the address as the macro’s URL. Set a height, such as 800 pixels.
  • HTML macro: press Copy embed code and paste the whole code. If the macro runs scripts, the SOP resizes itself to fit; otherwise it keeps its 640 pixel height and scrolls inside the frame.

If you can’t find either, ask your Confluence administrator what is allowed on your site.

If embeds aren’t available at all, paste the share link (Copy link) as a normal link. Readers click through and read the SOP on its share page.

Things to know

  • Anyone who can view the Confluence page can read the SOP, including anonymous visitors if the space is public.
  • The embed shows the current SOP each time the page loads. There is nothing to re-paste after an edit.
  • Confluence’s own search won’t index the SOP’s text, because it lives in SOPCompass. Add a sentence of context above the embed so the page can be found.

Removing it

Delete the embed from the page and revoke the share link in SOPCompass. Revoking alone stops the SOP showing everywhere that link is used.
