Sharing SOPs in Slack

Paste a share link into Slack and it unfurls with the SOP's title and step count. Workspaces can't connect their own Slack yet.

Slack is where many teams ask “how do we do this again?”, so the goal is to get the answer, an SOP, into the thread quickly. Here is what works today.

  1. Open the SOP and press Share.
  2. Create a link. Give it a label such as #ops channel so you can find and revoke it later, and pick an expiry if the need is temporary.
  3. Press Copy link and paste it into Slack.

Slack shows a preview card with:

  • the SOP’s title,
  • your workspace name,
  • a line such as “A 12-step procedure.”

Anyone in the channel can open the link and read the SOP without an account, on desktop or phone. The link always shows the current version, so edits reach the channel without a repost.

Important: A share link works for anyone who has it, including people outside your company if the channel is shared with them. Use a link with an expiry for temporary needs, and revoke it from the Share window when you are done.

For channels where everyone is a member of your workspace, use More › Copy link on the SOP. That link opens the SOP inside SOPCompass after sign-in, so it never works for outsiders. Slack shows it as a plain SOPCompass link without the title or step count.

Why there is no Send to Slack button

You may see Send to Slack mentioned in older material. It posts to a single Slack channel set up on the SOPCompass side, so it only appears in SOPCompass’s own internal workspaces. Customer workspaces don’t have it, and can’t connect their own Slack workspace or choose a channel yet.

Until a self-serve connection ships, use share links as described above.

Posting SOPs to Slack automatically

On the Business plan you can build this yourself with the API: poll for new or updated SOPs and post each one with the Slack step in Zapier, Make or n8n. The full recipe is in Zapier, Make and n8n.

What isn’t available

  • No Slack app, bot, slash command or search from inside Slack.
  • No Slack notifications for assignments or @mentions. Those arrive by email; see Email notifications.
  • No Microsoft Teams app. Share links paste into Teams the same way.

Common questions

Is there a SOPCompass Slack app?

No. There is no Slack app, bot or slash command, and no way for a workspace to connect its own Slack from Settings yet.

Where is the Send to Slack button?

Customer workspaces don't have one. Send to Slack posts to a single channel set up on the SOPCompass side, so it is only offered in SOPCompass's own internal workspaces. Paste a share link into Slack instead.

Which link should I paste into Slack?

A share link if the people in the channel should be able to read the SOP without signing in; it unfurls with a preview. The SOP's own address (Copy link) if everyone in the channel is a member of your workspace; it opens after sign-in and doesn't unfurl with details.

Does the Slack preview reveal the SOP's content?

No. The preview shows the SOP's title, your workspace name and the number of steps. The steps themselves are only visible to someone who opens the link.

What does a revoked or expired link show in Slack?

A generic SOPCompass preview with no title, and the link no longer opens the SOP.

Can I post new SOPs to a Slack channel automatically?

Yes, on Business, by polling the API from Zapier, Make or n8n and posting with their Slack step. See the recipe in Zapier, Make and n8n.
