The department switcher sits at the top of Boards and each pillar page. It decides which SOPs you see.

The options

  • My department (or My departments): the departments an admin assigned you. This is where you start.
  • Everything: every SOP in the workspace.
  • HR & People, Operations, Finance, Sales, Marketing: one department at a time.

If you have no departments assigned, you start on Everything.

Your choice is remembered per workspace in your browser.

What filtering does

  • Pillar tiles on Boards count only the SOPs for the chosen view. A pillar with nothing for it fades back, but you can still open it.
  • On a pillar, SOPs for other departments are hidden. A library whose SOPs are all for other departments is left out. A link such as “3 more for other departments · Show everything” tells you what is hidden.
  • An SOP counts under its own departments, or its library’s default departments until it has some.

To reorder libraries or SOPs, switch to Everything. The arrows are hidden in a filtered view so you do not swap places with something you cannot see.

Set someone’s departments (admins)

  1. Click People.
  2. Find the person and toggle their departments.

Changes save straight away and decide what their Boards page opens on.

Tag an SOP’s departments (editors)

  • When creating an SOP, choose under Which departments is this for?
  • On an existing SOP with no departments, a prompt at the top asks Which departments is this SOP for?
  • Any time, click Edit and use Departments.

Every SOP needs at least one department. To change an SOP’s only department, add the new one first, then remove the old one.

Common questions

Are departments a security setting?

No. They decide what people see first. Anyone in the workspace can choose Everything and open any SOP in it.

Why does an SOP show up under every department?

An SOP with no departments of its own and no library defaults is shown everywhere until someone tags it, so it never becomes unfindable. It shows a "No department yet" label.
