Assignments and due dates
Assignments put an SOP in front of specific people and show who has completed it.
On this page
Assign an SOP
Editors, admins and owners can assign.
- Open the SOP and click Assign.
- Under Who needs to read this, tick the members.
- To add someone who is not a member yet, type their email under Or add someone by email and click Add (owners and admins only). They get an invitation as a viewer, and the assignment waits for them.
- Optionally set a Due date.
- Optionally add a Note, such as why they are getting it.
- If the SOP has a quiz, Require a passing quiz score is ticked. Untick it if reading is enough.
- Click Assign to and the number of people.
The email
Each member gets an email with the SOP’s title, your note and the due date. SOPCompass tells you how it went, for example “Assigned. Emailed 2 people.” If an email could not go out, it says so, so you can let them know yourself. People invited through an assignment get their invitation email instead, and land on the SOP when they join.
What the assignee sees
- A number badge on Assignments in the top menu. It turns red if anything is overdue.
- Under Assigned to me, each SOP with its note, due date and status.
- The button to finish it:
- Mark complete for a normal SOP.
- Take quiz when a passing score is required. Passing completes the assignment automatically.
- Read and sign for a policy. Signing completes it. If there is also a quiz, the quiz comes first.
Opening an SOP marks the assignment as viewed.
Track progress
- Click Assignments.
- Click Everyone.
Editors, admins and owners see every assignment in the workspace. Viewers see only their own. Each row shows the person, note, due date and status:
- Open
- Overdue (past the due date and not done)
- Done, with a green check
For quiz-gated assignments, a Quiz pill shows the person’s best score since the assignment was made. Editors can Remove an assignment.
Rules worth knowing
- A quiz-gated assignment can only be completed by a passing attempt made after it was assigned, so reassigning really retests.
- A policy assignment can only be completed by a signature made after it was assigned, for everyone, editors included.
- If a quiz is deleted, assignments that required it can be completed without it.
- Assignments belong to the workspace that made them. For a shared-in SOP, they live in your workspace, not the SOP’s home.
- Moving an SOP out of a library shared with another workspace can strand that workspace’s open assignments. SOPCompass warns you before such a move.
Assign from Insights
On the Business plan, Insights lists SOPs nobody has opened, each with an Assign button. See Insights.
Common questions
Do viewers need a paid seat to receive assignments?
No. Viewers are unlimited on every plan and can receive and complete assignments.
Can I assign a whole onboarding path?
Assign each SOP in the path with staggered due dates. Keeping them together in one library in the Company area makes this easy.
Can I assign an SOP from a library shared into my workspace?
Yes. The assignment belongs to your workspace, where the people are, even though the SOP is maintained elsewhere.
