Build with AI, the AI interview
The AI asks one question at a time, drafts from your answers and never changes your workspace until you approve it.
Build with AI is the assistant that writes SOPs by interviewing the person who knows the process. It is in the top menu for editors, admins and owners.
Note: Build with AI writes and improves SOPs. To ask a question about what is already written, use Ask.
Choose what to do
Open Build with AI and pick one:
- Start a new SOP. The AI interviews you about one procedure, step by step, and drafts the SOP for you to read and approve.
- Improve an existing SOP. Pick one. The AI reads it, asks what has changed or is missing, and proposes the updated SOP with the edits made.
- Map the whole business. A longer conversation, 20 to 30 minutes, about how the work gets done. It drafts the SOPs, libraries and boards you are missing.
Picking a card only selects it. Click the start button (Start the new SOP, Start improving or Start mapping) to begin. Every start is a brand-new conversation that only you can see.
You can also start Improve straight from an SOP: click More, then Improve with AI.
The interview
- The AI asks one question at a time and follows up when an answer is vague.
- Answer by typing (Enter sends, Shift + Enter starts a new line), or switch to Talk and answer out loud. See Voice interviews.
- What we have covered tracks the areas discussed so far.
- Every answer is saved as soon as you send it. Click Pause and come back later, or just close the page; the interview waits under Your work on the Build with AI page.
When there is enough to go on, the AI says so and offers to draft. You can draft then or keep answering, since more detail makes a better draft. You can also draft early at any point (for example, Draft the SOP from what I have).
Review the draft
Nothing changes in your boards until you approve it.
A new SOP. Click Read the draft. The draft shows where it will go (its pillar and library). Click Edit to change anything: the title, description, sections, steps, departments and Also shows in pillars. When it looks right, click Save this SOP. You can move it to another library afterwards.
An update to an existing SOP. You see a summary of what changed and why. Click Compare with the SOP today to see the current and proposed versions side by side. Edit if needed, then click Save this update. The version before it is kept in the SOP’s History, so you can restore it.
Mapping the whole business. You get a list of proposals, grouped the way they will be created: new boards and libraries with the SOPs that go in them, updates to SOPs you already have and changes to things that exist. For each one, click Read the draft, then Approve or Reject. SOPCompass warns you when an item depends on another one you have rejected or not yet approved. When you are done, click Apply to create everything approved.
Your work
The Build with AI page lists your interviews in progress and drafts ready to review, with their status (In progress, Drafting, Ready to review). Only you can see them. Open one to continue, or discard it. Discarding a conversation never removes anything you already saved.
Tips for a better draft
- Describe the real process, including the exceptions and who approves what.
- Mention the tools you use and where things are stored.
- Add a workspace description in People, Settings & billing, so the AI knows what the business does. See Workspace settings.
Common questions
Can other people see my interview?
No. Each interview is private to the person who started it, in that workspace. Others only see what you save.
Which AI model does it use?
SOPCompass uses Anthropic's Claude to run the interview and write drafts.
Can viewers use Build with AI?
No. Build with AI writes and changes SOPs, so it is for editors, admins and owners. Everyone can use Ask.
