The installable phone app

SOPCompass can be installed on a phone or tablet from the browser. It then opens from your home screen in its own window, without the browser’s address bar. For step-by-step install instructions, see Use SOPCompass on your phone.

Install prompts

• On Android and other browsers that support installing, a message Install the app appears once at the bottom of Boards or Assignments. Tap Install, or Not now.
• On iPhone and iPad, the message explains how to use Share, then Add to Home Screen. Tap Got it to dismiss it.

The message only appears on phones and tablets, only when SOPCompass is not already installed, and never again once dismissed.

Shortcuts

The installed app includes two shortcuts: My assignments and Ask a question. On devices that support app shortcuts, press and hold the icon to use them.

Updates

The app always loads pages from the server, so you get new versions automatically. If a new version is released while the app is open, a message says SOPCompass was updated. Tap Reload to switch to it.

What is stored on your device

To open quickly, the app keeps a copy of its own code, icons and an offline page. It never stores your SOPs, sign-in tokens or other data in that cache.

Separately, like the website, it remembers a few preferences in your browser: your reading progress, the text size, your last workspace and your department view.

Offline

The app needs a connection. If you open it with no connection, it shows an offline page. Open it again once you are back online.

Signing in

Emailed sign-in and reset links open in your phone’s browser, not the installed app. Finish there, then sign in to the app with Continue with Google or your password.
