Voice interviews
Talk through a process and the AI interviewer listens, asks follow-ups and saves the transcript as you go.
In a Build with AI interview, you can answer out loud. It is often the fastest way to capture a process you know by heart.
Start talking
- Start or open an interview in Build with AI.
- Under the conversation, choose Talk (instead of Type).
- Read the short note about the microphone and start the call.
- Your browser asks for microphone access. Choose allow.
- The interviewer speaks first. Listen, then answer whenever you are ready.
What you say appears in the transcript as it is understood.
During the call
A status line always says what is happening: Listening, The interviewer is talking, Thinking about that or Muted, with a timer that keeps counting while the line is open.
- Mute or Unmute your microphone.
- Stop the call when you are done.
- Switch to typing at any point. Nothing is lost; it is the same interview.
Everything said is saved as you go, including when you stop, switch to typing or close the tab.
If something goes wrong
- Microphone blocked: allow it in the padlock menu in the address bar and try again, or switch to typing.
- No microphone found: check that one is connected, or that no other app is holding it.
- The connection drops: SOPCompass tries to reconnect up to three times on its own. If it cannot, your transcript is safe and you can continue by typing.
Other ways to talk instead of type
- Import an audio recording of you explaining a process.
- Record your screen and narrate as you work.
Common questions
Is a voice interview a separate interview?
No. Typing and talking are two ways into the same interview. The transcript is one list either way, and you can switch at any time.
What if my microphone is blocked?
Allow it in the padlock menu in your browser's address bar and try again, or keep going by typing.
